About

The Newark SAVES Education Savings Program is a new initiative that will foster a culture of college savings among our district’s families with children entering kindergarten by:

  • Enrolling eligible kindergarten families in 529 college savings accounts with Equitable Financial, a leading financial services company, aiming for 3,000 students by June 30, 2026, while integrating financial literacy education for families.

  • Providing comprehensive financial literacy workshops and college planning sessions at the district’s 46 elementary schools. Parent Liaisons, in collaboration with FOCUS and Equitable, will offer hands-on support to help families navigate the savings process.

  • Developing outreach strategies in multiple languages to effectively engage all eligible families and close awareness gaps.

  • Utilizing social media, digital marketing, newsletters, and conferences to ensure program impact and widespread participation.

Kid Going to College

2038 is closer than you think

That’s when this year’s kindergarteners will be ready to start college. We know our students will have what it takes to succeed in college. But making sure they have the financial resources to attend and finish college takes long-term planning.

To help families with that planning, Newark Public Schools and its partners have launched the Newark Saves college saves program. This initiative has set the ambitious goal to create college savings accounts for 3,000 incoming kindergarteners by June 30, 2026.

Newark Saves will provide comprehensive financial literacy workshops and college planning sessions at the district’s 46 elementary schools.

Newark Saves is made possible with the generous support of the Prudential Foundation, and the partnership of the FOCUS Hispanic Center for Community Development, and Equitable Financial.
